MEB was proud to host the DBIA Hampton Roads Chapter’s Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) panel discussion!
This was an engaging and informative event that brought together industry professionals to explore the evolving role of technology in the design-build project delivery method.
Zach Emerson, CM-BIM, MEB’s BIM Manager, was a featured presenter, representing the design-builder’s perspective. He shared insights into the value of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) tools across all phases of a project. He emphasized how these technologies are not only improving coordination and efficiency during construction but also enhancing outcomes for owners by supporting long-term operations and maintenance.
Other panelists included Architect Sara Heppe of PF&A Design and Jeff Scarano, Director of Design and Construction for Special Projects at HRSD. Together, the panel discussed the power of a comprehensive BIM model and complementary VDC tools, including drones, laser scanners, digital layout equipment, and jobsite cameras, to improve project delivery from initial design through post-construction.
Zach highlighted MEB’s experience at the Greater Williamsburg Sports & Events Center as a real-world example of effective VDC integration. His presentation focused on how BIM was leveraged during preconstruction and construction to align the full project team under one collaborative Design-Build process.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the DBIA community and to share knowledge that helps push the industry forward.
