The MEB Building Dreams Scholarship Program is a company-funded initiative created to support the education and career goals of employees’ children and grandchildren. Whether they’re heading to a university, community college, or trade school, this program is one way we help build brighter futures for the next generation.
This year, the program awarded a $5,000 scholarship to each student. Meet this year’s ten recipients and discover their aspirations for the future and how this award will help them achieve their goals.
1. Karli Woody
Karli is attending Wingate University where she plans to pursue a doctorate in Criminal Psychology or Forensic Psychology.
2. Madalyn Groene
Madalyn is attending Riverside College of Health Sciences and plans to earn an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology. After graduation, she hopes to work at Riverside Hospital in Smithfield, Virginia.
3. Ta’Naiya Harris
Ta’Naiya is attending The American Musical & Dramatic Academy. She aspires to perform on Broadway while building meaningful connections and lifelong relationships within the fine arts community.
4. Dawson Barnett
Dawson is attending University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he plans to major in Political Science with double minors in Educational Studies and Spanish. After graduation, he plans to pursue either a master’s degree in Political Science or Education, or attend law school. His goal is to teach Political Science at the post-secondary level and encourage youth participation in politics.
5. Wyatt Brosch
Wyatt is attending State Fair Community College and majoring in Welding Technology. He plans to work as a TIG pipe welder and, one day, open his own fabrication and repair shop.
6. Whitlee Hughes
Whitlee is attending Bridgewater College, where she plans to pursue a career as an athletic trainer at a high school or small university.
7. Greta Hahn
Greta is attending West Virginia University and plans to study Biomedical Engineering. She hopes to work in an engineering or medical environment focused on the design and development of medical devices while gaining experience in clinical and laboratory settings.
8. Gabriela Cortez
Gabriela is attending Bon Secours Southside College of Health Sciences. She plans to earn her Associate Degree in Nursing and become a licensed Registered Nurse, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her ultimate goal is to earn a master’s degree in anesthesia and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
9. William Britt, Jr.
William is currently attending Old Dominion University. He looks forward to graduating next May with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and hopes to continue working with drones in his future career.
10. Mathew Parker
Mathew is attending Roanoke-Chowan Community College, where he plans to study genetics. He hopes to use that knowledge to help take over and manage his family’s deer farm.
