MEB Installs New Upgrades to Outdoor Learning Spaces at G.A. Treakle Elementary

The HRSD Washington District Pump Station crew recently visited G.A. Treakle Elementary School to help upgrade the school’s courtyards into spaces students can use and enjoy.

The team installed a series of features requested by staff to support outdoor learning. This included construction and setup of raised garden beds, installation of a greenhouse structure, a composting system, hammock stations, a hose reel system, and a free community library box.

The crew handled every step from transportation to final installation. Garden beds were assembled offsite, then placed and filled. Soil was spread and leveled, hammocks were installed on posts, the greenhouse was assembled on site, cement mix was used to secure the library box, and the hose system was connected for easy access to water.

Catherine Parks, Principal of G.A. Treakle Elementary, shared her appreciation for the MEB team, “My heartfelt thanks to the MEB company for their incredible partnership. Having a successful business in our community volunteer for the students at G.A. Treakle Elementary is priceless. Their hard work and dedication to completing these tasks is truly inspiring. The outdoor garden, construction of the greenhouse for our students’ plants, and installation of our outside library have transformed our school into a vibrant learning space, fostering curiosity and a love for nature in our students. I look forward to collaborating with this remarkable team in the future.”

The installations are now in place for students and staff to use throughout the school year to plant and grow, learn about composting, read outside, and spend time in a more interactive setting. Learn more about MEB’s commitment to our community here.
