Project Details

This project is a collaborative effort of the City and Newport News Public Schools. The new Huntington Middle School, the new Huntington Recreation Center, and the partial renovation of an existing building for the Huntington Center are co-located on a 17.1-acre site. The Huntington Center will occupy the north end of the site and the new Huntington Middle School will occupy the southern end.

 

The new 97,000 recreation center consists of a 17,000 SF renovation to the existing Huntington Center and an 80,000 SF addition. The facility includes classrooms, a youth center, a gym, a natatorium and activity pool, meeting rooms, and a community branch library.

 

The new Huntington Middle School houses 600 sixth through eighth-grade students and includes 123,000 SF of new construction with classrooms, library, gym, kitchen/cafeteria, forum, and stage.
