Project Details

This project was awarded by NAVFAC Southeast though the “best value” source selection process and included the construction of a new aviation fuel storage and distribution facility for Joint Base Charleston Air Base. The work primarily consisted of one 80,000 BBL and two 20,000 BBL bulk fuel storage tanks, a 1,800 GPM pumphouse, new operations building, mogas and diesel fuel fill stand, and a truck offload facility. The fill stand included the installation of fueling dispensers, FMU card reader, eyewash station, and two 20,000 gallon horizontal tanks with an elevated access platform. Modifications were conducted on Charleston’s existing hydrant fuel systems included pigging and grouting an existing transfer line, modifications to the existing storage tank, and installation of approximately 5,850 l.f. of 10” carbon steel internally coated pipeline between the two hydrant systems. This portion of work included boring under two existing taxiways and installing entire pipeline along an active taxiway. Additional modifications to the existing hydrant system included the installation of a new CP system and installation of a new pig receiver station.
