The overhaul renovations of these three buildings will give the City of Virginia Beach employees new state-of-the-art facilities. The buildings will house a new police headquarters and new data center, as well as new facilities for a variety of Virginia Beach City departments

Project Details

Buildings 1, 2, and 11 are design-build interior renovation projects located at the City of Virginia Beach Municipal Center. Building 1—which will house Public Utilities and Planning Departments—is a four-story 83,428 SF building. The former Operations Building, Building 2, is a four-story, 96,925 SF facility which is being transformed into the new Police Headquarters. Building 11 is a three-level, 57,395 SF facility housing Public Works and Information.

Building 1 demolition began February 2021, with MEP rough-in, window replacement, and interior and drywall work ongoing to date. Exterior door and main entrance enhancement and restoration work done in accordance with the Historic Review Board. Building 2 houses a data center being relocated within the building. MEB will maintain the existing data center throughout the project until the new data center location is online. All three buildings will be complete by Q1 of 2025. Building 1 interior demolition and abatement started August 16, 2022 with completion estimated January 2024.
