MEB Awarded New Huntington Middle School and Recreation Center Project

We are excited to announce that MEB has been selected as the general contractor for the Newport News SECRA (Southeast Community Resource Area) Huntington Middle School and the new Huntington Recreation Center!

This project is a collaborative effort of the City and Newport News Public Schools. The new Huntington Middle School, the new Huntington Recreation Center, and the partial renovation of an existing building for the Huntington Center are co-located on a 17.1-acre site. The Huntington Center will occupy the north end of the site, and the new Huntington Middle School will be located at the southern end.

The new 97,000 recreation center consists of a 17,000 SF renovation to the existing Huntington Center and an 80,000 SF addition. The facility includes classrooms, a youth center, a gym, a natatorium and activity pool, meeting rooms, and a community branch library.

The new Huntington Middle School houses 600 sixth through eighth-grade students and includes 123,000 SF of new construction with classrooms, library, gym, kitchen/cafeteria, forum, and stage.

The team plans to break ground on this new project in early August 2024!
