Project Details
This project consisted of the construction of a new Type III Hydrant Fueling System. It included a masonry structure that housed a 2400 GPM pump house, control room and staff offices. Two 10,000 barrel above ground fuel storage tanks with internal floating pans were constructed. Surrounding the tanks were cast-in-place concrete dikes with a containment liner system. Underground 12” epoxy lined carbon steel loop piping was installed from the pump house to the flight apron. At the flight apron the piping transitioned to 12” stainless steel at new isolation valve vaults. A new 10” underground carbon steel transfer pipeline was constructed from the existing tank complex to the new storage tanks. New hydrant control and isolation valves were installed. New truck loading stations were constructed adjacent to the new fueling facility. Three existing fuel storage/ pump stations were decommissioned. Each station consisted of 6 fuel storage tanks (total of 18 tanks) that were cleaned and demolished. It was the first project ever with a zero weather day clause. Per the contract, a time extension for weather days was not allowed. During the construction period, the team experienced some of the wettest months in Goldsboro, NC’s recorded history. The team also experienced two separate Tropical Storms, with one of them dropping 5.2” of rain on the project site in less than a 12 hour period. MEB completed this project 6 weeks early.
