A necessary part of a larger, federally-mandated program to reduce sewage overflows during rainstorms, this project will provide updated infrastructure that will help ensure HRSD’s ability to protect public health and the environment for decades to come. MEB is replacing an aging pump station (PS-135) and its associated gravity sanitary sewer pipeline that runs along the banks of Shingle Creek with two new pump stations (PS-159 & PS-160). This project will abandon/demolish the aged previous system and install a new modern system, utilizing six trenchless crossings under both CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. Major project elements include abandonment/removal of approximately 6,500 LF of 24- inch gravity sanitary sewer and 34 manholes along Shingle Creek, two new pump stations, 2,100 LF of gravity sanitary sewer and 12 sanitary sewer manholes, 5,760 LF of new 16-inch sewer pipe (force main) to the future pump station (PS-160) site, and 2,360 LF of new 8-inch sewer pipe (force main) to the future pump station (PS-159) site.
