This fast-paced, highly coordinated effort brought together multiple MEB crews to execute an essential upgrade to the facility.
Utility Crew // Flowserve Pump Installation
Our utility crew played an essential role in the preparatory phase of the installation. Each pump required an 80”x80” sole plate that sits on top of a concrete pad. These plates provide extra support and security due to the weight of each pump and had to be leveled to an accuracy of .005”/ft. To obtain the correct level, the crew installed anchors, jacking bolts, and shims between the pad and the base plate. Each sole plate weighs 800 lbs.

Pipe Crew // 54”-48” NRCY Tie-In Pipe Installation
The crew began by suspending sludge access and using pumps to re-direct the remaining flow from existing aeration tanks. Once enough sludge had drained, they installed ductile iron piping running from 54” to 48”. This included two sleeves, one reducer, and three pipe runs between the connections. The purpose of this tie-in is to route NRCY flow from the existing aeration tanks to the newly installed pumps.

Mechanical Crew // Flowserve Pump Installation
Next, the mechanical crew rigged the 30” NRCY turbine pumps from flatbed to crane, coordinating with crane and excavator operators to orient the pumps vertically using specific rigging points. Once airborne, the pumps were lowered into designated 5-ft diameter pump chambers. After setting the pumps, the crew used the same process to install the pump motors. These pumps are essential for recycling sludge that settles at the bottom of the aeration tanks.

Mechanical Crew // NRCY Ductile Pipe Installation
The final step was the installation of flanged ductile iron piping from each pump. This included both 48” and 30” flanged piping, along with 30” check valves, 30” plug valves, 30” magnetic flow meters, and multiple FCA’s (flanged coupling adapters). This run directs flow from the pumps back through the plant for recycling.
